The Canestrelli are typical biscuits from Liguria. It is said, that they were once prepared at Easter time to be used as a holder for blessed eggs. Nowadays, they are prepared by patiently kneading a dough of flour, butter, eggs and sugar into small balls that are then slightly pressed and shaped with the typical flower-like mould. After baking tha Canestrelli are covered with icing sugar.
So crumbly and mouth watering, they are best served with a glass of passito wine.
